Η Samsung announced today that it has started mass production of the latest mobile 12 Gigabit LPDDR5 DRAM, which is optimized for AI and 5G features in future smartphones, one of which could be the upcoming Galaxy Note10.
Έcomes in less than six months after the release of the 12 GB LPDDR4X in mass production, and with data rates of 5.500Mb per second, the LPDDR5 is 30% faster than its predecessor.

The new LPDDR5 memory is based on the second generation 10 nm process, revealed o Jung-bae Lee, VP of Samsung DRAM Product & Technology. He will support "Ultra-high definition video recording and machine learning, while significantly extending battery life".
Date: | Capacity | Mobile DRAM |
July 2019 | 12GB | 10nm-class 12Gb LPDDR5, 5500Mb / s |
June 2019 | 6GB | 10nm-class 12Gb LPDDR5, 5500Mb / s |
February 2019 | 12GB | 10nm-class 16Gb LPDDR4X, 4266Mb / s |
April 2018 | 8GB (development) | 10nm-class 8Gb LPDDR5, 6400Mb / s |
September 2016 | 8GB | 10nm-class 16Gb LPDDR4X, 4266Mb / s |
Samsung says the 5 Gb LPDDR12 can carry 44GB / Sec data, and the new chip uses up to 30% less power, incorporating a new circuit design with improved timing and low power.
Depending on demand, Samsung may move production to its second plant in Pyeongtaek as soon as it is built (expected next year). The company is also preparing the 16 Gb LPGDR for launch "in order to consolidate its advantage in the global memory market".
