Samsung and LG are preparing portable screens for smartphones

Η Samsung and LG decided to develop portable monitors for smartphones with minimalist design and reduced weight, which can be connected both wired and wireless.


ΣToday, we use smartphones for all kinds of work, while the manufacturers offer a variety of options to meet every need. The Asus ROG Phone 2 is a gaming smartphone, and the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 is a smart phone ideal for office applications, and more.

The screen size of a smartphone is greatly limited by its dimensions. The primary goal of a company is for the smartphone to be convenient to use and then to have as large a screen as possible.

Since the size of the screens is limited, writing texts through them virtual keyboard it is always tedious. Likewise, playing games for an hour is boring, while the small screen does not offer the same experience that a monitor would.

External screens for smartphones

Samsung and LG considered the above, and many more, scenarios and decided to develop portable monitors for smartphones. These screens will have a minimalist design and reduced weight, while they will be able to connect to smartphones both wired and wireless.

Manufacturers, to date, have tried many ways to extend the screens of smartphones. At the software level, Google added Desktop Mode to Android 10 and Samsung offers DeX Mode. On the hardware side, companies created it flexible screens and the particularly expensive foldable smartphones.

However, these new portable screens will have lower costs, offer more features and will be specially designed for use with smartphones. The screens will not have a built-in keyboard, but will allow connection of peripherals.

According to reports, the screen of the South Korean manufacturer will be called Samsung DeXbook, it will have a diagonal 14,1 inches, FHD resolution, battery 10.000mAh and will weigh less than a kilo. On the other hand, LG's solution called Cloud Top will have the same features, but will weigh 600 grams and the battery will have a capacity of 5.000mAh.

Both portable screens will be priced at 400.000 to 500.000 won or about 310 to 390 euros. While they are expected to be released sometime in the second quarter of 2020.
