Η Qualcomm just announced the new Snapdragon 870 5G SoC for Smartphones, which is a new upgraded version of the SD 865 Plus that was released last July.

The new SoC packs the main Kryo 585 CPU which is timed to clock speeds of up to 3,2 GHz, and as the company claims, will offer increased performance over SD 865 Plus. In addition, it has three cores Cortex-A77 having lower timing, and fourCortex-A55 cores with low consumption.
Qualcomm has not announced any other changes to the GPU and remains the Adreno 650, but the company says it will offer better gameplay through it Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Gaming.
The 5G modem remains the same (Snapdragon X55) with support in sub-6 GHz mmWave and download speeds up to 7.5Gbps.
This is the first time Qualcomm has introduced three different variants of essentially the same SoC, and it could be called Snapdragon 865 Pro instead Snapdragon 870.
The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 is expected to power a number of top devices from Motorola, iQOO, OnePlus, OPPO and Xiaomi expected to be announced at first quarter of 2021.
