The first quarter of 2020 saw the worst sales and shipments of smartphones in history and this trend is expected to worsen in the second quarter of 2020.
ΤThe turbulent environment in the smartphone market, with the pandemic having hit all companies, has yet to show a significant winner emerging in Western Europe, as Xiaomi is now ranked number four in this geographical area, according to the Canalys. Xiaomi ranks higher than HMD, but below Huawei, Apple and top Samsung.
The above chart reveals that Xiaomi represents a market share of 10%, but achieved an annual increase that reached almost 80%. Huawei, meanwhile, holds 18% of the market, but showed an annual decline of 40%. This suggests that Xiaomi may soon be able to overtake Huawei and take third place, if the same trends continue in the next quarter.
Canalys places Xiaomi as the number one brand in Spain, creating a major upheaval. But this seems logical as Apple, Huawei and Samsung experienced a huge drop in their annual sales, while Xiaomi on the other hand managed to record in the Spanish market, an annual increase of 46%.
Canalys also reported a four-digit growth rate for Oppo in the same area, but this growth is probably more related to the Realme Brand Name than to Oppo itself. Take a look at the chart below to get a better picture of what exactly is happening in the Spanish market.
Xiaomi also ranked third in the Italian market, up 306% year-on-year, and fourth in France, up 83%.
Now everyone is focusing on sales that Xiaomi will make for the remaining quarters of the year, especially as the flagship of the Mi 10 family is much more expensive than ever. But fortunately for Xiaomi there are many alternatives between the Redmi Note 9 series and the Mi 10 Lite 5G which sells for € 349, and this may help the company maintain its upward trend in the coming quarters.
