ΤAndroid 9 Pie made its official debut a few weeks ago. And everyone wants it and wants it now. But the reality is somewhat different. Most phones that have been created in the last 18 months will see Android Pie, but some of them will be upgraded as soon as we see the first developer preview for Android Q arrive. Unfortunately, this perspective often causes us to become overwhelmed when it's time to start a project. So let's see in this article, when we should expect the Android 9 Pie update.
- The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL have already been upgraded to Android Pie
- The Pixel and Pixel XL have already been upgraded to Android Pie
- Although not from Google, any Android One smartphone made since October 2017 will be upgraded to Pie in the fall.
Android Beta Program Partners
For the first time, other companies have partnered with Google to support the Android Beta program. When it started for Android Pie, these devices were in beta:
- Sony Xperia XZ2
- Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S
- Nokia 7 Plus
- Oppo R15 Pro
- Vivo X21
- OnePlus 6
- Essential PH ‑ 1
This means that each of these phones will see a complete upgrade to Android Pie in the very near future. In practice, the Essential PH-1 saw upgrades at the same time as the Pixel and Pixel 2.
Samsung
Samsung is creating more flagship models than Google has created. Samsung offers four premium smartphones every year. The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 +, the Galaxy S9 Active which is coming soon and the Galaxy Note 9. Even if Samsung sells 15 different models of the Galaxy S6, everything will be the same when it comes to the arrival of an update. But what is certain is that it will be late. Some models in Europe will see it first, a month later it will reach another part of the world and when it is sure that it will not destroy millions of smartphones it will give the green light.
- The Galaxy S9 and S9 + and any Active available will be upgraded to Android 9.
- The galaxy Note 9 will be upgraded to Android 9.
- The Galaxy S8 and S8 + will be upgraded to Android 9.
- The Galaxy Note 8 will be upgraded to Android 9.
And this is where things get interesting. There are a number of other devices that have a significant fan base. Like in India, where the Galaxy J models, as they offer the galaxy S experience at a cheaper price. And of course they will also get Android 9.
