NVIDIA announces GeForce RTX 2060, along with support for FreeSync monitors

Η NVIDIA announced its release today GeForce RTX 2060 on CESThe 2060 is the newest member of the new RTX family and will be priced at $ 349, making it the cheapest.

The RTX 2060 is different from the 2070, 2080 and 2080 Ti, and is not based on a completely separate GPU. Instead, it is based on the sme TU106 that exists in 2070, but with some modifications.

The 2060 Founders version has 1920 CUDA cores and 37 RTX cores. It has a 1365MHz base clock and a 1680MHz turbo clock. Comes with 6GB GDDR6 memory with 192-bit memory bus. The GPU has a TDP of 160W.

The 2060 Founders version is claimed to be 60% faster than the GTX 1060 and about the same level as the GTX 1070 Ti. Contrary to some people's beliefs, 2060 is capable of ray tracing and can do 5 rays / second compared to 6 in 2070. Considering that 2070 is marginally a ray tracing card, at least in Battlefield V (it is the only title available with ray tracing), it will be interesting to see what the new 2060 manages to achieve in this aspect.

The RTX 2060 is available for $ 349 for the Founders Edition, which features the same design and brushes as the 2070. There will also be other brushes from OEM manufacturers, which will be available from January 15 onwards.

Perhaps more interesting news is that NVIDIA has announced support for the VESA DisplayPort Adaptive-Sync protocol, which means that PC gamers will finally be able to use NVIDIA graphics cards with AMD FreeSync displays.

Just as AMD redesigned the VESA specs in FreeSync for its own products, NVIDIA also integrated it into the G-Sync protocol. To ensure compatibility, NVIDIA will test existing VESA Adaptive-Sync / FreeSync monitors on the market. Those who pass the NVIDIA compatibility tests will be marked as G-Sync compatible and will be enabled by default in the GeForce driver.

NVIDIA has so far identified 12 monitors from various manufacturers that are now G-Sync compatible. More models will be added in the future, but even if your model is not registered or has not passed the Compatibility Test, you will still be able to apply a variable refresh rate through GeForce drivers as long as the screen supports the function.

Support for these FreeSync monitors will begin on January 15 with a driver update. This update will be available on NVIDIA 10 and 20 series graphics cards.
