Razr 40 and Razr 40 Ultra : Motorola's two new clamshell foldables officially announced (Europe at the end of June)

H Motorola plays very strong in the special category of foldables and this is something that can be easily deduced from the announcement of the Razr 40 and Razr 40 Ultra

Following one clamshell form factor, Motorola essentially wants to create the first foldables that can (finally) make their way to the general public. The two devices I just announced about the US market, they are expected to follow his successful model Galaxy z flip, with the key difference being that Motorola seems to be focusing more on an even larger external display.

Starting from the most "enhanced" model, the Razr 40 Ultra it stands out for its impressive 3.6-inch external cover display, which a contrast with the competition can run full applications! In addition, the Panel in question has a refresh rate of 144Hz and reaches peak brightness at 1.100 nits, while it even supports HDR10+.

Comparing it to most clamshell foldables on the market makes it clear that the 40 Ultra's external display is light years ahead of the competition. As far as the internal display is concerned, it has a diagonal at 6.9 inches with pOLED panel, 165Hz refresh rate, peak brightness at 1.400nits, resolution at 2600 x 1080 pixels, as well as a distinctive 32MP punch hole.

At the heart of the Razr 40 Ultra beats one Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset of Qualcomm (the same chipset was present in its predecessor), with RAM 8GB and 256GB storage space (UFS 3.1). In addition, it has a battery with a capacity of 3.800mAh, which supports charging at 30w (in wired charging) and 5W in Qi charging. In fact, like the original Razr, here too, there is dual support with Physical SIM cards but also eSIM.

Regarding the camera, we don't expect anything revolutionary, as Motorola's high-end foldable proposal comes with 12MP primary camera and 13MP Ultrawide camera. It is worth noting that the Razr+ has Android 13, while at the same time it comes with 4 years of security patches from Google.

Besides the Razr 40 Ultra, however, we also had the most... "simple" and "economical» Razr 40, which is a solution with the same philosophy as the his "big" little brother, but with some "truncated" features. Specifically, the simple 40s comes with an internal display of 6.9 inches, with a refresh rate of 144Hz and a display of 1080p, naturally following the same technology in hinge with the larger model.

However, their main difference lies in external display, which is smaller at 1.5 inches. some "compromises» we also have in the chipset, where Motorola, in order to keep the price at lower levels, chose one Snapdragon Gen 1 SoC, which clearly does its job, but it goes without saying that it can't catch the performance of the Snapdaron 8 Gen 1. However, it comes with a significantly larger battery in 4.200mAh, while its main camera is clearly improved compared to its big brother, with a resolution of 64MP.

Both devices are expected in Europe at the end of June, with the Razr 40 Ultra to line up close to 1.200 euro and his younger brother: Razr 40 to have a selling price at 800 euro.
