Moto Edge 50 Ultra : Officially revealed with SD 8s Gen 3, 64MP periscope lens and wooden back

Motorola has just officially revealed the new Moto Edge 50 Ultra, which belongs to the new Moto Edge 50 smartphone family.


The Moto Edge 50 Ultra it is mainly the upgraded version of it Motorbike Edge 50 Pro which was released last week, as there was no equivalent Incredibly edition in last year's series.

It offers more processing power and quite upgraded cameras compared to the Pro model. This is because it comes equipped with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 compared to Snapdragon 7 Gen3, which has the Pro version of the series.

Combined with the above SoC, it comes equipped with memory LPDDR5X RAM at 12GB or 16GB expandable via Virtual RAM. The internal storage is of the technology UFS 4.0 and that's enough 1TB.

The cameras of Moto Edge 50 Ultra

In the photography department, its cameras are quite impressive. The main camera is at 50MP with 1/1.3″ sensor and has omni-directional autofocus, as well as support for OIS with f/1.6 aperture.

Then there is the periscope lens in 72mm with 3x optical zoom which comes equipped with 64MP sensor (0.7μm pixels) and a bright one f/2.4 aperture. Along with the periscopic lens, there is also ultra-wide at 50MP (0.64μm pixels) with field of view at 122° and autofocus for the close-up shots.

The front camera has a sensor at 50MP (0.64μm pixels) with f/1.9 lens and autofocus. All three of the aforementioned cameras can shoot video with a resolution of 4K and 60FPS. The main rear camera as well as the front camera also feature slow-mo mode at 1080p (120FPS for the front, up to 960FPS in the back).

All cameras use a laser autofocus system as well as a special sensor that helps with exposure, automatic white balance and flicker detection.

Since 2024 is the year where we see more and more use of the systems AI in the various devices, respective systems have been integrated to optimize the various downloads.

More specifically, the Al automatically manages the shutter speed and degree of stabilization according to the landscape. It also manages the aforementioned autofocus which all the device's cameras have. Finally, there is the new Photo Enhancement Engine which is responsible for optimizing details in photos such as shading, visibility and bokeh.

Display specifications

The Moto Edge 50 Ultra, comes equipped with curved P-OLED screen at 6.7″ with resolution 2712 x 1220 pixels (20:9 aspect ratio). The its refresh rate is at 144Hz and has touch sampling rate at 360Hz (during Gaming Mode). Its maximum brightness reaches 2500nits and uses it DC dimming. It also has support for HDR10 + as well as certification from Amazon and Netflix for viewing HD content.

Η Pantone is responsible for the color selection Peach Fuzz which the device has and at the same time the color experts also tested the screen and certified it as Pantone Validated and Pantone Skintone Validated.
The camera system has also been validated by the Pantone.

The Edge50 Ultra it has an aluminum frame and its screen is equipped with Gorilla Glass Foods for protection with a special coating against fingerprints. It also has resistance class IP68 against water drops and dust.

Battery and additional features

Corresponding to the Edge 50 Pro, the energy supply is taken over by a battery at 4500mAh which supports charging technology TurboPower at a speed of 125W for wired and 50W for wireless charging. Motorola claims that 4 minutes of wired charging is enough to last the device for a full day. In addition, wired and wireless charging of other devices is possible through it Moto Edge 50 Ultra.

The smartphone is available as single-SIM (SIM or eSIM) and dual-SIM (SIM and eSIM). It supports the latest technology WiFi 7 (802.11be), the edition Bluetooth 5.4 and Ultra Wide Band (UWB). It UWB extension offers more accurate distance and angle measurements relative to other devices that also have them UWB extension. Additionally, the port USB Type-C offers support for connectivity USB 3.2 and DisplayPort 1.4.

Finally, as far as the latest smartphone features are concerned, it comes equipped with tunable stereo speakers Dolby Atmos as well as technology support Dobly Head Tracking.

Availability

The Moto Edge 50 Ultra it will be available in three color options. More specifically, one of these options has a wooden back (Nordic Wood) and the other two (Forest Grey and Peach Fuzz) feature a vegan leather back.

In addition to the color options, there will also be two versions with different RAM & Storage layouts. One has 12GB RAM & 512GB Storage and the other 16GB RAM and 1TB Storage.

Sales of the device will begin in the coming weeks, in various European countries, with the basic version of the smartphone having an initial price of €1,000.

So far, there is no official information about its availability in other countries/regions.
