The new application for mobile phones, Missing Alert App, which helps everyone to be able to contribute to the faster identification of missing persons with the help of technology, presented the Organization "Child's smile" and the Cosmote.
Τthe Missing Alert app will soon be available to the public. Anyone who wishes, will be able to download it on their mobile phone and help locate missing persons in our country:
- receiving notifications on his cell phone of the disappearances in the area where he is currently
- participating in surveys by sending information via chat
- mobilizing other volunteers in the same area, through social media.
In addition, users will be able to protect their loved ones, who belong to vulnerable groups at high risk of extinction (eg due to dementia, mental deprivation), by declaring their details -through the app- in order to speed up the disappearance process and start the investigation, if necessary.
The initiative for the design and implementation of the Missing Alert App was taken by Cosmote. From the first stages of design, "The Smile of the Child" contributed significantly to the creation of the app, with its long experience and specialization in disappearance issues.
During the presentation of the application, but also of the annual data on the incidents of disappearances in our country, the President of the Organization "The Smile of the Child", Costas Giannopoulos, said:
Statistics on the prevention and treatment of disappearances in Greece
At the online event that took place, "The Smile of the Child" presented, among other things, the official statistics of its actions and services, regarding the prevention and treatment of the phenomenon of disappearance.
More specifically, from 1/1/2019 until 30/4/2020:
- The 116000 European Disappearances Line received 12.066 calls. In order to prevent it, specialized psychologists performed interventions on 986 students, 1.332 parents and guardians, 1.872 teachers.
- The Organization was managed in collaboration with EL.AS. and the co-authorities, the disappearances of 163 children, of whom 138 were found as well as 12 adults, of whom 10 were located. Amber Alert Hellas was activated for 16 children, while for the 8 adults the new Missing Alert Hellas service was activated, which is addressed to people from 18 to 60 years old who belong to vulnerable and high-risk groups.
- Emphasis was also placed on the new important collaborations that "To Hamogelo tou Paidou" has concluded with the Ministry of Civil Protection, as well as the Ministry of National Defense. The Deputy Minister of Civil Protection, Mr. Eleftherios Oikonomou, and the Deputy Minister of National Defense, Mr. Alkiviadis Stefanis, respectively, took a stand on these initiatives.
The Missing Alert App will be added to the tools already available to "The Smile of the Child" and the institutional authorities to prevent and manage any disappearance. The application will be handled by the specialized team of the Organization, which will channel all information to those in charge, so that it can be evaluated and utilized to the maximum, with the aim of immediately locating the person who is wanted.
