The new free video conferencing application Messenger Rooms, which allows up to 50 people to join a shared online chat present it Facebook.
ΟFacebook users will be able to share invitation links that will allow non-users to participate in Messenger Room video conferencings through the internet browser, either on their computer or on a mobile device or a "smart" mobile phone, without having to "download" a special application or create an account on their device.
Users will be able to "enter and leave" the "video conferencing" room, and there will be no time limit on Messenger Rooms video conferencing. If users want, they will be able to keep their video conferencing "private".
Facebook has assured that uninvited intruders will not be able to "enter" video conferencing. In the first phase, however, video chats will not be fully encrypted, which may happen in the future.
Facebook's announcement - which due to favorable international conditions accelerated the launch of the new application, which was intended for later - resulted in the decline of Zoom's share in the US stock market, which had recently risen significantly. Respectively, the Facebook share had a smaller percentage of profits.
Messenger Rooms will be accessible directly from the News Feed and other Facebook pages (Groups, Events etc.), as well as from Messenger, while in the future the access will be expanded to Instagram and WhatsApp, which belong also in the "family" of Facebook.
When will it be available
The new Messenger Rooms app, originally tested in Argentina and Poland, will take a few weeks to become available to all Facebook users worldwide, according to the BBC and Reuters. Facebook has also assured that it will not listen to or record what is being said on video conferencing and video calling on its platforms.
It is noted that the company is also planning the expansion of group video calls (with the participation of up to only eight people instead of four so far) withWhatsApp, which has more users than Messenger.
