At Xiaomi Investor Day held last year Thursday 9 February in China, the CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun, along with other company executives discussed the company's business progress and also talked about the company's upcoming cars.
Ο Lei Jun stated during this meeting that: "We are striving to enter the top five electric car manufacturers in the world in the next 15-20 years».
The v 100% ownership of cars that Xiaomi will produce lies in the reuse of the company's resources from other commercial activities. In the last 3 years, the company launched more than 10.000 physical stores in China, and these will be very useful in promoting the cars that Xiaomi will produce in the future. Regarding the company's profitability from the production of electric cars, Mr Lei Jun said that the company will follow a similar pricing policy, as it follows with its smartphones. This means that the company will aim for a low profit above the manufacturing costs, which will be covered in a targeted combination by the profits of the software, but also by other additional services that will accompany the sales of the cars.
In the past, cars could integrate sales, after-sales service and battery charging. In the future, cars will be able to integrate more and more After Sale services.
As to the question whether the mass production of cars that will start from 2024 it's too late the company, o Lei Jun believes that the big players in the automotive sector are against 6 – 7 years ahead of Xiaomi, but it's never too late.
