USA: Huawei is accused of forming a gang and stealing industrial secrets

The risk of a resurgence of tension between Washington and Beijing is now serious - Request at the same time to Canada for extradition of Meg Wangzhou.

ΟU.S. authorities on Monday released a string of accusations against both Huawei's chief financial officer, who has been the focus of a diplomatic and judicial bribe-taker, and the Chinese telecommunications and technology giant itself, two cases that pose a serious risk of a resurgence of tensions between Washington and Beijing.

The US Department of Justice has revealed that it has filed 13 charges in connection with alleged violations of US sanctions against Iran, against the Chinese group and Chief Financial Officer Meg Wangzhou, who was arrested in Canada in December at the request of the United States. .

He also revealed that he has filed 10 charges against two Huawei subsidiaries - Huawei Device Co., Ltd. and Huawei Device Co.USA - for setting up and gang, as well as for stealing industrial secrets related to the cellular technologies of the American T-Mobile. In addition, the two subsidiaries are accused of obstructing justice.

These two series of accusations bring to light Huawei's efforts to "exploit" its competitors and financial institutions in the United States, but also the "threat" it poses to "global free and equal competition," said Christopher, director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Ray.

Hours later, Canada's CBC television network reported that the country's Department of Justice had confirmed that Meng had been formally extradited to the United States from Washington to Ottawa.

The arrest in early December in Vancouver of the chief financial officer and daughter of the founder of Huawei caused a stir in relations between the United States, Canada and China. Free on parole, Meng is expected to appear in court on February 6.

In three cases, which were interpreted by many analysts as retaliation, Chinese authorities have since arrested two Canadians and sentenced a third to death.

The crisis between Beijing and Ottawa also led to the ouster of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trindade's Canadian ambassador to China, John McCollum, over his controversial statements about the Meng extradition process.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday denounced an "unjust and immoral" campaign against Huawei, which has been excluded from various tenders to build fifth-generation mobile networks and is now viewed with distrust by many governments, especially in the West.

The company denies US allegations that it facilitates spying on Chinese intelligence.

US Attorney General Matthew Whitaker has said that none of the allegations leveled at the Chinese government appear to have been leaked on Monday. But "as we told Chinese officials in August, China must guarantee that its citizens and companies will abide by the law," he added.

The administration of Republican Donald Trump launched a full-scale offensive against China last year, accusing it of technology theft, threatening behavior toward its neighbors, building a "totalitarian state," violating the rights of other religious minorities. countries with lending, especially in Latin America, among others.

Washington's attack unfolded as the trade war declared by President Trump raged, imposing successive waves of additional tariffs.

The news of the persecution of Meng and Huawei and the official request for its extradition from Canada became known a few hours before the resumption of bilateral trade talks in Washington, where Trump will receive the Chinese Vice President Xu , head of the Chinese delegation.

Liu arrived in Washington today, the Chinese state news agency New China reported. The delegation also includes a member of the Chinese central bank's board of directors, the vice president of the state planning agency and the deputy finance minister.

The prosecution of Meng and Huawei "has nothing to do with our trade negotiations with China," US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said on Monday. But, he added, his own ministry is cooperating and will continue to work with the rest of the government to "protect the national security" of the country.

The Chinese government has reacted angrily to reports of prosecutions against Meng and Huawei, with Industry Ministry spokesman Wen Koo calling them "unfair and immoral."

The State Department, for its part, has urged Washington to end "irrational crackdowns" on Chinese companies, including Huawei, and to cancel Meng Wangzhou's arrest warrant and extradition request.

Beijing will resolutely protect the legitimate interests of Chinese companies, the Chinese Foreign Ministry added in a statement.
