India bans Xiaomi TikTok, WeChat and Mi Community applications amid rising tensions with China

Η Indian government announced that use is prohibited in the country, for 59 applications which is for Smartphones, including TikTok, WeChat and Mi Community.

Ο The reason is that, as stated in a press release issued by the Ministry of Technology & Information of India, "has received numerous complaints from various sources, including several reports, about the misuse of certain mobile applications available on the Android and iOS platforms, and related to the theft and covert transmission of users' personal data, on unauthorized servers located on in countries other than India».

There have been numerous reports from the Indian Cybercrime Control Center, the Home Office and the emergency response team (CERT-IN), that these Smartphone applications pose a threat to the national security of the country and a threat to the privacy of Indian citizens. The Government of India has decided to ban the use of certain applications, which are used by both Smartphone users and computers.

Taking a look at the list, we mainly see service applications that are advertised in India as integrated into the Smartphone system, such as: file explorer, document scanner, RAM cleaner, an independent sharing service, but also some gaming platforms with in - game markets, such as PUBG for example.

Also on this block list are platforms from major Chinese companies, such as its applications Baidu, Alibaba's UC Browser and Tencent's QQ application ecosystem.

Among the smartphone makers facing a problem is Xiaomi, as so far it is the only company that sees some of its applications being banned in India, and there is currently no mention of Huawei, even if her company Shenzhen has huge problems with the US government.

This is probably a political move against China, after the incidents that took place on the border of the country and in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed. At the time of writing, some of the Google Play apps on the list are downloading and running normally without any problems, raising the question of how exactly the Indian government plans to enforce the ban. applications.
