Immuni: Italians release app to help curb COVID-19 spread

The Italian government has put it into operation immune, an innovative app that can be "hosted" on Italian smartphones and which is expected to help better track cases and reduce the spread.

ΗItaly in March and April that passed us, unfortunately had many "Sad beginnings" in the battle against his pandemic coronavirus. The wider region of Lombardy and especially the northern regions of the country were hit hard by the spread of the pandemic and thousands of Italians lost their lives (so far the total number of cases has exceeded 234.000 and their deaths 38.000).

On the positive side, the situation in neighboring Italy is now under control, however COVID-19 continues and remains, which is why the Italian government in an effort to stop the spread of the virus, has already planned the "Next" day.

The government of the country, taking advantage of the fruits of modern technology, has put it into operation immune, an innovative app that can be "hosted" on Italian smartphones and which is expected to help not only in the better tracking of cases, but also in restriction of the risk of contact one healthy person with a person who is sick of him COVID-19 contamination.

Immuni which is the creation of a technology company based in Milan, named Bending spoons, This is a COVID-19 tracking app aimed at preventing the virus from spreading further. Based on the Bluetooth function and the principles of social distancing, if a user of the application is found positive in the coronavirus, then it can register in the application and then the application automatically undertakes to inform which his contacts (all that is required is that everyone has the Immuni app installed on their mobile devices).

According to its creators, Immuni emits a low-power Bluetooth frequency (which means better autonomy) and in no case collects geolocation data, such as GPS data. In addition, the application is not in the position to to collect any sensitive personal data which identifies the user as is for example his name, the date of birthThe address of, o phone number or Email of. The Immuni app just knows there was contact with one case, without, however, providing any information about user identity, nor for the point at which any contact may have occurred.

The concept is essentially to inform a user and to isolate himself with his will, so that minimizes the spread of the virus. In this way, the creators of Immuni consider that the return to regularity will occur much sooner, as those users suspected of being infected will be able to seek immediate advice from their personal physician, while protecting their social circle.

The use of the application it is not mandatory and its pilot application will start on 8 June in 4 regions of the country (Liguria, Abruzzo, Marche and Puglia), and then will expand throughout Italy. So far, the messages are very positive for its use, as it already figures on first places of the chart with free apps of the Italian App Store and the Play Store, surpassing popular applications such as TikTok, Whatsapp and Instagram.

Without a doubt, the Immuni app can prove to be another very good one technological weapon in the quiver of humanity in the battle it waged against the coronavirus.
