Which were the leading companies in mobile phone sales for 2018 in Greece.

We saw a few days ago the top companies in mobile sales worldwide for 2018, while we now have data for the Greek market in particular.

ΤThe total number of mobile phones sold in Greece in 2018 exceeds 2,6 million in pieces and although it is a slight decrease compared to 2017, the total value of the devices increased from 520 million euros (2017) to 560 million. euro (2018). The global trend shows that consumers are buying slightly more expensive mobile phones now, which is also in line with our market.

In Greece we find an increased percentage of feature phones (19%), ie simple phones that are not smartphones, with Nokia and Alcatel having, through all their phones (feature phones + smartphones), an important part of the pie.

Percentages based on pieces (smartphones & feature phones) for 2018:

  1. Samsung (24%)
  2. Huawei (19%)
  3. HMD Global (Nokia) (15%)
  4. Xiaomi (12%)
  5. MLS (6,5%)
  6. Alcatel (6%)
  7. Apple (5%)

If we put the feature phones aside and refer only to smartphones, the landscape changes a lot, with the top five changing significantly.

  1. Samsung (29,5%)
  2. Huawei (24%)
  3. Xiaomi (15%)

  5. Apple (6,4%)
  6. HMD Global (Nokia) (3,2%)

Honor (3%), Meizu, Alcatel, Sony, Vodafone, Lenovo (Motorola), ZTE and Turbo-X follow with percentages less than 1,5%.

In terms of the value of the phones sold, the first 4 manufacturers own 90% and form a clear picture.

Percentages based on value devices sold for 2018:

  1. Samsung (36%)
  2. Huawei (21%)
  3. Apple (21%)
  4. Xiaomi (10%)
  5. MLS (3,8%)

The most popular category for our country are mobile phones under € 300 (44%). The share of the category up to 150 euros decreased by 4% (from 40% in 2017 to 36%) and the category 300-400 euros also saw a small increase. The most premium mobiles (over € 400) make up 13%.

In terms of specific smartphone models, we have a clear advantage over mid-range devices. For Samsung, the J series dominated, with the A7 and A6 + making their appearance in the top ten, while the most popular Huawei phones in our country are mainly the Lite models (Mate 20 Lite, Mate 10 Lite and P20 Lite). Apple, which does not have a mid-range phone for 2018, saw the iPhone 6s (32GB) stand out this year, with the iPhone XS Max in second place and the iPhone XS (64GB) in third.
