The smartphone market fell in all quarters of the year, for the first time

Its statistical analysis Counterpoint for smartphone sales in 2018 confirms that in 2018, sales fell in each quarter.

ΞStarting from the last quarter of 2018, the decline reached levels of 7% compared to the corresponding quarter of 2017, with total device shipments reaching 395 million. This proves that consumers hold their devices longer now.

In terms of companies separately, Samsung fell 8%, Apple 4% and LG 26%, while the growth of Huawei (34%), Xiaomi (26%) and HMD Global (126%) is impressive. . Especially for the latter, the total shipments of Nokia smartphones reached 17.5 million units from 7.7 million in 2017. It remains, of course, far from the top three in total number of devices.

In terms of market share, Samsung is still in first place with 19%, followed by Apple and Huawei with 14% each. Then we have Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo with around 8% each, while LG and Lenovo barely reach 3%. Finally, HMD Global has reached 1% of the global market and is now aiming to overtake the previous two.
