In the context of complete independence from any kind of American technology, the Huawei confirmed that it is working on setting up its own mapping service to replace the Google Maps.
Η this service is called Map Kit and is not currently intended for direct use by consumers. Instead, it serves primarily as API for third-party developers who can use it to build mapping and navigation software. At the moment, the Map Kit can collect mapping information from 150 countries and regions around the world.
According to the CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group, Mr. Richard Yu, the Map Kit already supports several upgraded features such as lane change for vehicles, navigation and mapping instructions in augmented reality environment, and real-time traffic information. When it is fully ready for launch, the Map Kit will be available in 40 languages.
It is also rumored that Russia has already shown interest Yandex and the American Booking Holdings. More information on Map Kit will be revealed in October, perhaps during the presentation of the series Huawei Mate 30.
