Huawei: The company's 5G in France has a five-year expiration date

The decision of the French government for its equipment Huawei was considered crucial for two of the country's four major telecommunications providers.

ΜFrance may not ban its equipment Huawei, for the creation of mobile telephony and fifth generation telematics (5G) networks, but puts an eight-year expiration date and advises the country's telecommunications providers to avoid it.

Specifically, as reported by ΑΠΕ - ΜΠΕ, the general director of the French national cybersecurity service (Agence nationale de sécurité des systèmes informatiques, ANSSI), Guillaume Pupar, assured during an interview published yesterday Sunday that the authorities of the country will not "completely ban" utilization of the equipment of the Chinese manufacturer Huawei, however he pointed out that they recommend to avoid it.

«What I can say is that there will be no complete ban", Stressed Popar in his interview with the newspaper Les Echos. However, especially regarding the telecommunication companies "which do not use the current space" the equipment of the Chinese industry, "we advise them not to do it", he added.

The US government has been urging its allies in recent years to exclude Huawei from its fifth-generation networks because it claims Beijing could use its espionage equipment. Huawei management denies that its equipment could be used for this purpose.

How the country's telecommunications providers are affected

The decision of the French government for its equipment Huawei was considered critical for two of the country's four major telecommunications providers (Bouygues Telecom and SFR), as about 50% of their networks are based on machines produced by the Chinese group.

"For those who already use" equipment produced by Huawei"We issue licenses for between three and eight years," Pupar said in an interview with Lez Eco.

Orange, which is owned by the French state, has already selected the European competitors of the Chinese giant, Nokia and Ericsson, for the supply of equipment that it will use for the 5G network that it will create.

Guillaume Pupar insisted that from this week, providers who have not already received explicit approval for the use of Huawei equipment after the deadline should consider that they have received a negative response.

He added that Paris' choice to restrict Chinese industry access to the French 5G market was taken to protect "French national sovereignty" and was not hostile to China.

This is not a "complaint from Huawei, nor is it racism against China," the ANSSI director general said. "The only thing we point out is that the risk is not the same when selecting European suppliers and when selecting non-European ones."

"We are in the risk management phase," he added, adding that Paris would consider it "catastrophic" for all telco to choose "the same supplier" of equipment, "even if it was a French company".

"The decisions are ready," added Popar, confirming the information transmitted by the French Agency on Tuesday, that all that remained was the signatures of the co-responsible ministers.

At this stage, only three telecommunications equipment companies (Huawei, Nokia and Ericsson) are able to offer equipment for 5G networks, with the Chinese industry being considered the most advanced in this field.
