Huami is working with McLaren to develop e-Sports suits

Today, Huami announced that it is working with McLaren Applied Technologies (part of the automotive industry McLaren), for the development of smart uniforms for electronic sports.

ΑThis collaboration will explore how body sensors and AI technology can be used to optimize performance in virtual car racing. These suits will collect data, and through special applications and the use of the mobile network, will provide users with a complete picture of their biometric data and activity data during e-Sports games.

"We are excited to partner with the world's leading technology vendor McLaren Applied Technologies, which is also the official partner in the McLaren Shadow Project," said Tommy Tang, Vice President of Huami.

"We believe that this strategic partnership validates the growth potential of high-tech wearable products, and will contribute to global expansion."

For those who do not know, e-sports is a form of competition that uses video games. It has grown in popularity since the 2000s, as the involvement of professional gamers is growing rapidly. Some of the players then become professional athletes.

The global market for e-sports (e-Sports) is expected to show a serious growth rate in the coming years. In 2018 it reached a turnover of $ 905 million and is expected to increase to $ 1,1 billion this year and $ 1,5 billion in 2020. E-sports are still being considered if they can be accepted for the 2024 Paris Olympics. .

In these races in particular, there is a great similarity between virtual and real motor sports. The similarities include the way the car's balance is controlled, the braking, the accelerator and the steering, as well as the way the car accelerates. Match simulators require physical and mental endurance as well as gambling skills.

The first phase of the collaboration, Huami's new technology will help select the winner of the McLaren Shadow Project event in Woking, England. The competition, which started last July, gave the opportunity to more than 500.000 "athletes" to participate. Those interested can watch the live broadcast of the finals on McLaren YouTube channel  on 16 and 17 January.
