Nova Launcher continues to improve over time, adopting features similar to those of Google's Pixel Launcher and improving them substantially.
Ο Nova Launcher is clearly the most popular standalone launcher for Android, and TeslaCoil Software is constantly improving it, adding more and more features. With the 6.1 beta version of Nova Launcher we saw the introduction of two new key elements: the dark mode in the Google Discover feed, and the numeric notification dots, such as those of Android Oreo.
For those who do not know, TeslaCoil Software has developed a small application, which adds to Nova Launcher the old favorite Google Discover feed. This app is called Nova Google Companion, and we can download it here.
Although Nova Launcher has been in dark mode for some time, the development team did not integrate this feature into the Nova Google Companion. However, with the 6.1 beta of the launcher, the Google Discover feed has acquired issues. Specifically, through the settings of Nova Launcher, we choose whether we want the Google Discover feed to be light-colored, dark-colored, or to follow the function of night mode.
TeslaCoil Software has developed an add-on app for Nova Launcher that allows dots notifications to be displayed in the application environment. This particular app is TeslaUnread, and we can configure its appearance through the Nova Launcher settings. So far, this app has several options for displaying notifications, such as dynamically changing its appearance, resembling the dots of Android 8+, or being displayed in squares with the number of notifications inside.
However, it was not possible for the alerts to look like Android Oreo dots, and to list the number of alerts. With the 6.1 beta of Nova Launcher, TeslaUndread can now display notification dots with the number of notifications on it.
We do not know when the two new features of Nova Launcher will be available to the general public. But if we want to install the trial version of Nova Launcher, we can register in the test program of the application.
