Nine Android apps with a total of 5,8 million downloads were removed from Google Play Store for stealing his credentials Facebook by their users, according to the security company Doctor Web.
ΟThese applications were basic utilities that provided image editing capabilities, horoscope information, and performance optimization capabilities.
The Doctor Web said the software was working properly, so users would probably be more willing to trust them with their data.
The apps then asked users to sign in to Facebook using a legitimate login page based on JavaScript to steal a user's login credentials after they are entered. They also stole cookies from the current session and all the stolen data was sent to them scammers.
However, attackers could easily change the settings of the trojans and order them to load the website of another legitimate service. They may even have used a completely fake login form found on an online phishing site.
So, Trojans could have been used to steal connections and passwords from any service., said the Doctor Web.
The company said users Android should only download applications from trusted developers and be wary if an application asks them to sign in to a service. (The usual tips for installing applications only from trusted platforms do not apply, of course, as these applications were available on Google Play Store.)
Η Ars Technica states that Google excluded the developers of these applications from Play Store after the Doctor Web contacted the company. This may not be enough to stop them from trying the system again, however, because they can sign up for new developer accounts for as little as $ 25.
