New features that facilitate users in matters of privacy and security, announced Google.
Μincluding expanding both the "incognito" use of its applications and the option to automatically delete data related to location history, searches and other user activities.
Incognito mode appeared in the Chrome web browser in 2018, was added to YouTube earlier this year and has now been extended to Maps (Google Maps). When a user uses Incognito Mode in Maps, their in-app activity, such as the places they searched for, will not be stored in their Google Account and will not be used to make their Maps experience more personalized.
You can activate Incognito mode by selecting it in the menu that appears when you click on your profile picture, while you can turn it off at any time. Incognito mode will start on Android this month, and will soon be available for iOS devices.
In May, Google announced that users could now automatically delete their location history and web and app activity, which includes things they've searched for and browsed. Now the automatic deletion comes to its history YouTube. The user can set the retention period of his data (three months, 18 months or until he deletes them).
The company also announced that it has added new ways to easily understand and manage user data in Google Assistant. Confidentiality control becomes easier with simple voice commands. In the coming weeks, any user will be able to delete Assistant activity from their Google account, saying e.g. "Hey Google, delete the last thing I told you" or "Hey Google, delete everything I told you last week".
The user will not need to activate any of these functions, as they will work automatically when he asks for help from the Assistant. If he requests to delete data for more than a week from his account, the Assistant will direct him directly to his account settings page to complete the deletion. The new feature will be available this week in English and next month in all other languages.
In addition, in order to enhance the security of the user's password, the new "Password Check" is now implemented, a new function that with one click informs if one of the passwords is weak, if the user has it reuse on multiple sites or if the password has been compromised by a third party.
