The investments of telecommunication service providers in Greece in the following years were mentioned by Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou

The minister responded to a topical question submitted to the Hellenic Parliament by the Member of Parliament for Dodecanese George Nikitiadis on "Price Increases in Telecommunications».

Overall, the companies' investments are expected to exceed the 4 billion euros in the next two years. Referring to a meeting held recently between the political leadership of the Ministry of Digital Governance and the representatives of the providers, Dimitris Papastergiou emphasized that by 2026 the companies committed to the implementation of Fiber to the Home lines as follows: h Vodafone Greece will have materialized 850.000 FTTH linesThe Cosmote 3.100.000The PPC 1.300.000 and Nova 1.000.000.

If this is immediately combined with brave decisions to stop using copper in buildings where optical fiber goes through the two subsidy programs that we have secured with funds from Recovery and Resilience Fund and PDE, that is, of Smart Readiness and gigabit vouchers, we will talk about even more immediate and impressive results in broadband indicators., he said.

Through "Smart Readiness", of a program that is already being implemented, are financed 120.000 buildings to create structured fiber optic cabling. The total cost of the program amounts to 100.000.000 euro. Via Gigabit voucher, which is in the legislative process, the cost of upgrading a simple connection to broadband over 250 Mbps for 400.000 subscribers, with a total subsidy cost of 80.000.000 euro.

The 2018 we didn't have optical fiber in homes at all, while today we are in 36%, a percentage that is constantly increasing. At the European level, Greece is one of the countries with the fastest growth rate of fiber optic access networks. Based on his latest data European Council on FTTH, in September 2022 the number of households with access to fiber optic networks increased compared to September 2021 by 34.5% (4th place in the EU in terms of growth rate).

From the above one realizes that in 2024 the situation in relation to the penetration of broadband in our lives will change drastically., he said.

Also, the Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou, reported that the Cosmote officially announced that it intends to proceed with reductions in wholesale prices up to 28%, while the new wholesale player which is the DEH has also committed to corresponding reductions.

«So, not only are prices not increasing, but this practice is expected to bring reductions in retail prices, i.e. those that reach the consumer", He emphasized characteristically.
