Dragonfly Futurefön: The device of the future that ended up in a 650.000 euro cabinet

It was in 2014 when Jeffrey Tschiltsch opened a page on the funding platform Indiegogo showing the future of both smartphones and the IT world.

Dragonfly Futurefön they called it and it was just a hybrid mobile and a computer, a slim and small touch screen that fitted onto a laptop dock, which instantly unfolded revealing a second screen and a full-size keyboard!

The innovative system ran both Windows and Android and its creator, a startup called IdealFuture, promised that the device would replace the phone, your laptop and tablet at the amazing price of 715 euros. Tschiltsch immediately made a $ 200 deposit.

Five years later, Tschiltsch would no longer have Futurefön in his hands. Instead, he would be in an Illinois courtroom on a FBI order, claiming the device was just the latest step in a decade-long deception that cost him nearly $ 5 million. .

Tschiltsch was one of Indiegogo supporters who say that Futurefön creator Jeff Batio deceived them with a long series of lies. This portable notebook with dual screen that would greatly simplify our technological daily life with the independent 7-inch Android phone has never existed.

The plot was so well designed that when Tschiltsch "tweeted" at some point his doubts, someone from IdealFuture immediately called him to reassure him that "everything is ready". The only problem; How the page was full of models and 3D models, but did not have a single photo of the real product.

Despite the doubts, the campaign on the funding platform went more than well: IdealFuture was asking for $ 10.000 to bring the innovative product to market and had raised $ 726.000 (€ 650.000)! By mid-2016, however, everyone assumed that was the case scam and they were just crying for their money.

And the thing would probably stay there if one of his agents did not start looking for the thing FBI. Who by 2018 had tied the case and was now calling on the deceived supporters to testify in court. Batio had not only deceived the world by eating that $ 725.000, but his scams spread over a period of 13 years and the data showed that he had eaten over $ 5 million from trusted investors.

The case is set to begin later this year and close recently, with Batio convicted of 12 felony counts, each of which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years. The final sentence will be announced in September.
