Donald Trump: Signs executive order banning TikTok and WeChat in US

Nothing stops him Donald Trump. The US President finally signed the executive order for ban on TikTok and WeChat from the US.

Μin this way he carried out last Saturday's announcements, regardless of whether they run in parallel the discussions between ByteDance and Microsoft for the full (now) acquisition of the former.

The Trump administration sees TikTok as a huge threat to US national security because it collects personal data of tens of millions of users stored on servers in China and / or reported to the Chinese government. ByteDance has denied the allegations and is willing to do anything to prevent its service from being banned in the US, so it has started discussions with many interested US companies and ended up at Microsoft. With the executive order, Donald Trump wants to put even more pressure on her in order to find a solution by September 15, 2020, otherwise the TikTok blockade will be applied automatically.

As for WeChat, the most popular messaging application for the Chinese, here things get even more complicated, because the blocking actually affects the owner company. This is the first time we have heard from the US government that the Tencent, a giant for the Internet and gaming, as it owns terribly popular applications and games, as well as significant percentages in other companies (e.g. Ubisoft, Epic Games, paradox).

For the time being, the executive order only mentions WeChat, but a paragraph states that the government will decide within 45 days in total on Tencent and its subsidiaries whether to be included in the blockade. This development does not affect Ubisoft and Epic Games, as Tencent does not have a majority stake in them, but it could significantly hit Riot Games (League of Legends, Valorant), Supercell (Clash of Clans), Grinding Gear Games (Path of Exile) and Funcom (Conan Exiles, Age of Conan) owned wholly or wholly by Tencent.

In addition, since we are talking about concerns about collecting user data and sending it to Chinese servers, the ball can also pick up the games developed by Tencent for other developers, such as Call of Duty: Mobile and Pokemon Unite. A White House spokesman said that despite the provisions of this paragraph, the executive order would only apply to WeChat, but with Trump no one can be sure.

Note, however, that the Tencent actively participates in China's new national certification system that will force gamers to play under their real name, while it has also linked to its own certification system which in some games requires biometric face recognition to play.
