Apple: Lawsuit against GEEP Canada for illegally reselling 100.000 recycled iPhones, iPads and watches

Η Apple, filed a lawsuit against its former contractor GEEP Canada, for illegal resale in over 100.000 iPhone, iPad and watches which had to be disassembled and recycled.

Όhow Apple revealed "At least 11.766 kilograms of Apple devices left GEEP facilities without being damaged - a fact that was confirmed by GEEP itself"..

It's essentially a theft, which was uncovered when Apple audited more than 500.000 iPhones, watches and iPads given for recycling among themselves 2015 and 2017. It was revealed that the 18% these devices (a total of 103.845) still had access to the Internet through mobile phone companies.

This number does not include devices that have only WiFi connectivity, so the total number of devices that have been stolen is probably much higher.

Apple is asking now CAD $ 31 million (US $ 22,7 million) as compensation from her former partner. THE GEEP did not deny the theft, but claims that three employees were responsible for the theft and not the company itself. THE Apple, however she reacted by saying that the employees were in fact her senior executives GEEP.

Η Apple, has refurbished devices on the market, but has not attempted to sell or allow the sale of any product that does not meet safety or quality standards. «Products sent for recycling are no longer able to sell to consumers… and can cause serious safety problems,Said the company in The Verge .

However, many critics believe that the Apple, and other electronics manufacturers must focus on reuse rather than recycling if we are to reduce 53 million tonnes of e-waste produced only the 2019.
