If you also have one of its applications installed QuVideo mentioned in the list we give you, it is advisable to delete them from your device.
Η Google is working hard to improve the privacy and security of the Android operating system. In its latest version, the company has offered its users a greater degree of control over the resources or rights that an application has access to.
However, even if there is this limitation, there are still some applications in the Android ecosystem that are very abusive and do not need to obtain a special license to operate them. According to a thorough security research conducted by the VPNpro team, they concluded that a number of applications by a Chinese developer have been classified as Spyware, and it is suspected that there are more than 100 million Android devices affected by these applications.
The team conducting the investigation is from VPNpro, which confirmed that at least 100 million applications have been installed from these applications that require "dangerous rights". In particular, VPNpro claimed that one of the applications of this developer has a malicious remote access Trojan hidden inside the application code.
The Chinese developer behind all these dangerous applications is QuVideo Inc. based in Hangzhou. This company is known for the popular video editing application, VivaVideo. This application is available in the Play Store where it offers its services for free, it already has more than 100 million downloads. VivaVideo, on the other hand, has been selected from the 40 Chinese applications that the Indian government has labeled as "malware" or "spyware" in 2017.
However, these apps are not only available on Android, but also on iOS, as QuVideo apps are also available in the Apple App Store. However, because the iOS licensing system and permissions are different, this platform cannot be abused of a similar nature. Therefore, everyone who owns these applications is advised to check what permissions you grant to the application, or even better to delete them from your device.
Suspicious QUVIDEO applications:
- VivaVideo
- VivaVideo PRO Video Editor HD
- SlidePlus - Photo Slideshow Maker
- Tempo - Music Video Editor with Effects
- VivaCut - Pro Video Editor APP
- VidStatus - Status Videos & Status Downloader
If you have any of the above applications installed, it is advisable to delete them immediately.
