ZTE Axon S: coming soon with Slide-out mechanism and 5G support?

Electronics maker ZTE is still in the process of recovering from an extremely turbulent year, and is now stepping up its research and development efforts in the smartphone sector, and says it is ready to return to the market with a new product.

ΣSo according to information based on executives who are close to the company, it seems that the ZTE is ready to release a new device that is rumored to be the ZTE Axon S. This Smartphone will have a slide-out mechanism, which has a smaller frame that protrudes from the bottom left side of the device. In this frame there will be a total of five cameras, with a triple lens system at the back, and a system with two cameras at the front.

When this mechanism is closed, the screen ratio to the body of the smartphone reaches almost 100%, and the Renders we see are very close to reality.

Telescopic phones are of course nothing new, but some manufacturers have started experimenting with such designs again over the last twelve months.

A recent example of a device with a slide-out mechanism comes from Huawei Honor, which introduced the Magic 2 just a few months ago, with the cameras on a similar slide-out mechanism, which was located on the top of the body and not on its sides, as it is now with the ZTE Axon S.

The ZTE Axon S is said to be able to connect to the fifth generation of mobile networks (5G), and possibly make its debut, as the first ZTE device with this feature.

ZTE had originally planned to release at least one 5G smartphone a long time ago, but a sales ban imposed by the United States Department of Commerce delayed its efforts, paralyzing its operations for about half a year, causing losses that amount to billions of dollars.

This does not mean that ZTE does not have a share of responsibility for what has happened, as the sanction was largely the result of a breach of US law, and the US Department of Commerce's response was so strong that continues to threaten the existence of the company itself.

So ZTE, without access to US technologies, including Qualcomm, but also the Android app license with Google Play services, failed to produce smartphones in mid-2018, thus losing most of its market share in USA, thanks to its cooperation with telecommunications providers.

At the moment it seems that the company is not trying to win back this market, but is investing in experimental technologies such as 5G, which is a bold bet, seeing how its reputation received a huge blow over the past year, affecting its ability to contract lucrative contracts with Western telecommunications providers.

Combined with the fact that the US is currently pushing against the use of equipment from ZTE and Huawei, the company is not in a good position.

Another challenge for the Shenzen-based company arose just a few days ago, as the owner of the majority of its shares announced plans to sell part of its ZTE shares.

This move brought new pressures and losses in the value of its shares, and the current situation is far from ideal for ZTE to experiment with specialized designs and functions such as the 5G smartphone and slider, ie with Smartphones such as the Axon S.

On the other hand, innovation may help the company find a way out of this problematic situation.
