Xiaomi's upcoming charger in 120w with model number MDY-12-ED has now also passed for certification by 3C of China.
ΑThis suggests that Xiaomi will soon release a new Smartphone that will take advantage of it. This charger has the ability to supply power to 5V-3A, 11V-6A and 20V-6A, and has been designed by Huntkey.
A valid one leakster claims that this will be used on a smartphone, but with a "brake" on the ability to charge on 100w.
Many manufacturers are trying to extend the limits of fast charging for smartphone batteries and to date we have seen on the market chargers with power up to 65W. The situation, however, may escalate to much greater levels, as long as some serious obstacles are overcome.
Since last year we know that the Xiaomi is experimenting with a 100W charger and has even performed 4000mAh full charge battery demonstration in just 17 minutes. This time, a hands-on video from the Chinese network Weibo is published, where we see a charger from the company with a power of 120W! Without any official position from Xiaomi, a valid leakster claims that this one will be used in a smartphone, but with a "brake" in the possibility of charging at 100W.
It may be the same charger used a few months ago when Xiaomi admitted it was not yet ready for commercial use. The most serious reason is that the battery degrades by about 20% when charged at such high power and for they are looking for ways to overcome technical and physical difficulties.
A 100W charger for a standard 4000-5000mAh… battery might be an exaggeration.
