There have been a number of complaints to its user community recently Xiaomi, about them proximity sensors on some of the company's recent Smartphones.
Η Xiaomi seems to have heard and confirmed reports of many problems with the devices' proximity sensors, and has a plan in place to address these issues.
The exact source of the problem has not been confirmed, but apparently the problem comes from hardware and not from the software and that is why Xiaomi decided to terminate its agreement with Elliptic Labs - the main supplier for proximity sensors.
In fact, the company has now entered into a new agreement with Minghao Sensing, another major manufacturer in China that specializes in sensors, although it is not yet clear when the new solution will be available on Xiaomi phones.
Furthermore, the Xiaomi has pledged to try to correct these annoying problems by moving on new MIUI updates via OTA for all affected devices, in an effort to properly recalibrate the software that came with the faulty sensors to minimize their failure.
We will see how this problem develops and when these FIXs will be available at the software level, but it is good to see Xiaomi respond positively to the growing number of complaints about proximity detection issues which is very important, especially when we make a call and the screen should go off when we approach it in our ear and turn it on again when we remove it or end the call.
