Xiaomi: Plans to slow down charging on Smartphones that do not have "genuine" batteries

Apparently, the Xiaomi plans to follow in her footsteps Apple, and will start displaying a warning on its smartphones if the device does not have a "genuine" battery.

Εnot only will it display messages warning you of the battery change, but the Xiaomi may even slow down the charging speed.

Xiaomi recently released the version 5.6.0 of the Mi Security application, an application that, among other things, is responsible for providing statistics on battery and charge rate.

Inside the code of this application, at XDA Developers, found that the company plans to display a warning in the form of a message and reduce the charging speed if the operating system detects that a "non-genuine" battery is installed in the device.

The warning will tell the user that the phone's battery " must be replaced only by an authorized service provider " and that the use of a “unauthorized (genuine)”Battery can damage the device or the user.

After a closer look at the application code, it was found that this warning about "unauthorized battery"Will appear in the Chinese versions of Mi 9, Mi 10 or Mi 10 Pro and will not appear on devices that have been released in other countries, nor on any other Smartphone (* at least for now).

The following warning will appear to device owners when the system detects that an unauthorized (genuine) battery has been installed.

This device was equipped with a built-in battery that should only be replaced by an authorized service provider.

Replacing the battery elsewhere may damage this device. The use of unauthorized (genuine) batteries may result in swelling, overheating and leakage, and may also cause fire or other hazards. Note that you are using unauthorized (genuine) batteries.

Below you can see some screen samples (ScreenShots) from the messages that will be displayed…

These types of alerts are similar to their counterparts Apple,, which introduced a special feature, to alert owners if the battery in the iPhone has not been installed by a certified technician. Apple has been criticized for the move, with many saying the company only did it to direct iPhone users to more expensive battery replacements.

In Apple iPhone, the warning is activated by a special microcontroller that can only be checked by an authorized technician. Xiaomi may be using a similar mechanism to locate third-party batteries, but we have no idea how it does it.

These kinds of warning messages that Xiaomi will activate seem to be designed to scare the owners of its devices, so that they do not go to unauthorized repair centers - at least in China for a start.

Of course, this move in terms of batteries seems to make some sense, especially in the event of damage due to the inability of "low quality batteries" to handle fast charging.

At present, this change seems to be limited to China and no evidence has been found to indicate that Xiaomi plans to expand it to other markets, such as India and Europe.
