According to tipster Kacper Skrzypek, Xiaomi has begun creating a new feature for MIUI that will allow RAM to be expanded.
ΔVarious references to this feature have been displayed in MIUI and a screenshot of the feature has also been shared. This indicates that the new feature will freeze a portion of the internal storage as virtual RAM, which will help in multitasking as well as allow applications to stay in memory longer.
The screenshot shows that the specific function will use 1GB from the internal storage space like RAM and states that users should enable it when there is sufficient storage space.
Although this feature is new to Xiaomi, other companies such as Vivo and OPPO they already have it on their own smartphones. For example, the Vivo X60 Pro More, binds 3GB of indoor storage for use as virtual RAM which raises the total available capacity RAM by 12GB in 15GB. This feature will also be available in the upcoming Vivo V21.
However, so far there is no official report indicating that this feature will be available on MIUI or which device will receive it first. We hope that the Xiaomi will not leave it only for high-end smartphones as it is a function that will help older smartphones more which have smaller capacity RAM, thus enhancing their performance.
