Η Xiaomi presented to us today the camera technology under the screen for Smartphones (Under Display) third generation, which according to the company, is the best solution for cameras below the screen, with perfect screen and selfies.
Η first generation of camera technology under the screen presented to him June 2019, with transparent descent and ascent materials in sub-pixel laid the foundation for the subsequent development of this technology, said the CEO Lei Jun.
The second generation of this technology was introduced in October of 2019. The third generation of camera technology under the screen has a full screen, achieving a balance between perfect screen and improved performance in selfie photos.
In the third generation, the OLED screen remains almost opaque. To achieve this transparency, a special pixel arrangement has been adopted in the area of the camera below the screen, which allows the screen to pass light through the vacuum area of the Sub-pixels.
The advantage of this is that each pixel unit maintains a complete arrangement of RGB (Sub-pixel) elements without sacrificing pixel density. Compared to common solutions on the market, the camera projection area below Xiaomi's third-generation display has doubled the number of pixels in both horizontal and vertical directions, achieving the same pixel density, and thus achieving the same brightness, color accuracy and color gamut.
We're proud to present the latest masterpiece from our Xiaomi engineers: 3rd Generation Under-Display Camera Technology! True full-screen displays are just around the corner! We're planning on putting this into mass production next year. Stay tuned! #InnovationForEveryone pic.twitter.com/DrKeL8wZUg

In the third generation, the Selfie camera sensor remains the same as traditional front-facing cameras. But thanks to the new pixel layout, Xiaomi's third-generation cameras have been redesigned to further improve light transmission in the area of the camera below the screen. Combined with the camera optimization algorithm developed by Xiaomi itself, the camera now below the screen eventually achieves almost the same display performance as any other front-facing camera.
Xiaomi says that this 3rd generation camera technology is ready to enter mass production next year, so we can see that a smartphone with this technology will be released from 2021.
