Xiaomi: Stresses the need to protect privacy

We are proud to say that Xiaomi adheres to world-class standards of security, privacy and transparency.

Protecting user data has always been a priority for Xiaomi. In 2014, the company established the Security and Privacy Committee. In 2016, Xiaomi was the first Chinese brand to be certified by TrustArc. In 2018, Xiaomi adopted the EU Community Directive, “General Regulation on Data Protection”(GDPR). In 2019, Xiaomi's security and privacy practices were certified to ISO / IEC 27001 and ISO / IEC 27018. The first edition of the MIUI White Paper on Security and Privacy was also published.

During this year “Security and Privacy Awareness MonthXiaomi employees and visitors were informed through an interactive presentation on security issues, such as how to protect personal data. The training sessions for the employees of the company, covered different topics per department, such as “How to integrate privacy protection into product development","Safe Research and Development", and "Business risk control”. The competition Xiaomi Cup CTF gave thousands of engineers the opportunity to become "hackers" and participate in a programming contest, solving privacy challenges. Mr. Richard Watson, Lead Partner of APAC Cybersecurity Risk Management at EY, noted that consumers expect their information to be collected and stored securely. The most important factors in sharing personal data with a business is the process of secure collection and storage (63%), control of shared data (57%), and trust (51%). Mr. Paul Breitbarth, Director of Global Policy & EU Strategy of TrustArc, advising organizations on the international transfer of user data, referred to the importance of providing assurance to data operators, who verification actions.

In the context of “Security and Privacy Awareness Month”Also released two major privacy issues: the MIUI White Paper on Privacy and the Xiaomi IoT White Paper on Privacy. These publications include a summary of the MIUI and IoT product privacy policies and explain the type of personal data collection and use.
