Xiaomi: New patent for a Smartphone with dual pop-up camera system

Η Xiaomi seems to have registered an interesting new patent for a Smartphone with dual pop-up camera mechanism to make her phones look unique.

Έto patent design set published by CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration) earlier today, shows a Xiaomi smartphone with two angular pop-up camera units. It is a design reminiscent of pop-up cameras in their models Oppo reno, but is also significantly different from them.

Its system Xiaomi has two angular mechanisms Pop_Up camera, which house two camera units each. One camera looks forward while the other looks back. There are essentially two Selfie cameras front view and two rear view cameras on this phone.

This peculiar design results in a Smartphone with a full screen without holes and notches for the Selfie camera, but also a clear back, since in it now there will be only one LED flash at the back, which is located just below the pop-up modules with cameras. The rest of the design of the phone is the standard one used recently by Xiaomi, with rounded edges and minimal bezels (Bezel) across the screen.

At the lower end of the phone we see the notches for the port USB Type-C, the microphone and the speaker. At the top of the phone it seems that there is a second microphone that is placed next to the pop-up units of the camera. The On / Off function key and the volume keys are on the right side.

The overall design of this phone seems quite typical, but it is not clear how Xiaomi plans to fit two camera sensors in such a limited space within these pop-up units. The camera units fit the thickness of the phone, so if Xiaomi really intends to release the device, they may need to make the phone slightly thicker than usual.

In addition, the placement of two PoP-Up mechanisms inside the same housing will make these units heavier and this will require a more powerful motor to lift them, but at the same time increase concerns about their durability.

The company filed this patent at CNIPA in December 2019.

Folding Smartphones, or those with dual screens, are considered to be the next big leap in the evolution of smartphones. However, manufacturers are still experimenting with various other camera systems on their phones, especially with the location and design of the front selfie camera.

A selfie camera below the screen, as shown in ZTE Axon 20 5G, is probably the best solution for Smartphones that will have a full screen. Xiaomi itself recently announced the camera technology third generation under the screen . However, this technology may be a bit early and does not ensure the good quality of the photos and videos produced by the Selfie camera, so the solutions with Hole-punch and systems camera pop-up will continue to exist for quite some time to come.
