Xiaomi India: Accused of tax evasion amounting to over 77 million euros in India

In trouble with the government and Ministry of Finance of India seems to be the Xiaomi India, as accused of tax evasion of more than EUR 77 million.


Σspecifically, the Revenue Information Directorate of India (DRI * the equivalent Financial Crime in Greece), issued a notice today Wednesday to the popular Chinese mobile phone manufacturer Xiaomi Technology Pvt. Ltd, for the payment of customs duties 653 crore Rs (77.647.577 euros / 87.878.976 $), after the completion of the investigation started in DRI against the company some time ago.

Xiaomi India is accused of violating it section 14 of the 1962 Customs Act, and the rules customs valuation of 2007 of India. THE Xiaomi India seems to have avoided customs duties as the actual holder of imported Smartphones, spare parts and accessories, not adding royalties and license fees, according to the Ministry of Finance of India.



In the research conducted by DRI On its premises Xiaomi India, led to the finding of incriminating documents indicating that the Xiaomi India assigned exploitation rights and license fees to both Qualcomm USA as in Beijing Xiaomi Mobile Software Co. Ltd under the obligations of the contract.
