Xiaomi: Announces three new Smartphone & Smart TV factories in India

Η Xiaomi is set to open two new Smartphone manufacturing plants in India in 2021, the company announced today.

ΘHe also built a second TV factory in Telangana, and as the company pointed out, this means that all smartphones and TVs sold in India will be manufactured exclusively in India.

The two new Smartphone manufacturing plants are manufactured in collaboration with DBG India and the Chinese manufacturer BYD, while the factory for televisions will be built by Radiant with its registered office Hyderabad, which already manufactures televisions in the country.

"In 2020, we increased our production for smart TVs, and today 100% of the company's Smart TVs are made in India. "We managed to raise the percentage from 85% to 100%," he said Muralikrishnan B, its CEO (COO) Xiaomi India.

In addition, the new plants will also bring much of Xiaomi's manufacturing base to the country. The company also manufactures motherboards, subboards, batteries and chargers in the country. It has started manufacturing camera units in the country since 2020. The company said that up to 75% of smartphones sold in India are now manufactured locally.

Today we renew our commitment by adding new construction partners, such as  DBG and BYD for smartphones and with Radiant for smart TVs. Now the 99% of our smartphones and 100% of our smart TVs will be manufactured in India and most of the accessories for smartphones will be manufactured or manufactured in India. We hope to play even a small role in building India as a global production hub., he said Manu Jain, CEO of India and Vice President of Global Xiaomi.

He also said the company has added 10.000 people to its staff only the 2020, increasing the total number of Xiaomi employees in India to 60.000. This number includes the employees who work directly for the company but also those who are employed by the company's associates, in production units, service centers and other positions.

The 2020, as most manufacturers shrink their workforce, we focused on gathering the building blocks for our growth in the Indian market - and our employees. We have created new jobs for over 10.000 people the 2020., said Jain.
