Xiaomi: Fixed an issue with IP cameras displaying images from other cameras

A big problem was created with the Xiaomi Mijia IP cameras, as it seems that some video leaks from various owners of the security cameras leaked from a Bug.

Η Xiaomi in a new update made, confirms that the problem has been solved, but for security reasons has not restored the integration function with the Google Home Hub until Google cross-examines that the problem has been finally solved.

Specifically, the official statement of Xiaomi is the following…

Xiaomi has always prioritized the protection of privacy and user information. We know there was a problem taking pictures when connecting the device Mi Home Security Camera Basic 1080p in Google Central Distributor.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused to our users. Since then our team acted immediately to resolve the issue and has now been appointed. After research, we found that the problem was caused by the cache update on December 26, 2019, which was designed to improve the streaming quality of the camera.

This only happened in extremely rare circumstances. In this case, it happened during the completion between Mi Home Security Camera Basic 1080p and Google Home Hub with monitor in poor network conditions.

We also found that 1044 users were with such integrations and only a few with extremely poor network conditions may be affected. This issue will not occur if the camera is connected to Xiaomi's Mi Home application.

Xiaomi has notified and repaired this issue with Google and has also suspended this service until the cause is fully resolved to ensure that these issues do not occur again.

But let's start from the beginning so that you can understand exactly what happened….

In the US, where security cameras and speakers are very common, one can say "Hey Google, show me my patio camera" on the Google Nest Hub and then watch the video stream. Yesterday a Xiaomi Mijia security camera owner found the house he was looking at it was not his. Understand that the issue immediately took on enormous proportions as people uploaded screenshots of strangers and people - one even raised a baby to sleep! - in the Reddit.

Google immediately disconnected the Mijia cameras from its systems and contacted Xiaomi to resolve the issue. The issue is now circulating in all technology forums in the US. Xiaomi could not have started the year in a worse way in the country. For good and for good turn off your Xiaomi Mijia until we find out more about it. We hope a solution is found quickly.

In the US there is a great deal of inconvenience to people with IoT and the connection of all their daily devices to the internet. There are strong reactions to the privacy of citizens from foreign cameras. The leak of material from his own security cameras - which have entered the security of loved ones and property - on the internet will have an impact on the issue.

Debates in the Senate and Congress last for years without a final solution. The leak from the products of a Chinese company especially gives another support to the supporters of President Trump who keep talking about an attempt to monitor their lives from the Asian country.

Of course the problem may be Google's but something tells us that the damage done to Xiaomi's reputation today will not touch the American giant.
