Microsoft will release a new SDK for developers that will allow them to integrate Xbox Live features into Android and iOS applications.
ΣEarlier last month we informed you that Microsoft had announced its intention to extend Xbox Live to mobile devices as well as the Nintendo Switch.
The announcement was to take place on Wednesday, March 20 as part of the Game Developers Conference to be held in San Francisco. However today, a week before GDC 2019, Microsoft announced that it will release a new SDK for developers that will allow them to integrate the features of Xbox Live in Android and iOS applications.
The Xbox Live expansion is subject to a more general initiative called Microsoft Game Stack, which is going to provide the necessary services and development tools to those developers who want to develop their games on Microsoft platforms. Using the new Xbox Live SDK, developers will be able to integrate all the key features of the service, such as Xbox Achievements and Gamerscore in Android and iOS games.
As you can see in the image above, Game Stack will allow developers to use several more software tools and cloud computing services, such as Azure. Azure is essential for integrating cloud services into games, as the entire Project xCloud architecture is built on it.
No further details have been released about the rumored Xbox Live expansion on the Nintendo Switch, however it is possible that an announcement will be made next Wednesday at the Game Developers Conference.
