The Greek mission was highlighted by the qualifying games for the Olympiad organized by the non-profit Organization for Educational Robotics, Science and Technology, WRO Hellas, with strategic partner the COSMOTE.

Η World Educational Robotics Olympiad (WRO) is an important, global event for science, technology and education, helping to develop the creativity of children and young people from all over the world, as well as their ability to solve problems. At the World Robotics Olympiad 2023, with "Connecting the World", take part groups from more than 90 countries.

The teams that distinguished themselves in the qualifiers

The robotic projects of the Greek teams that competed this year in the qualifiers for the World Robotics Olympiad in the categories Robo Mission (REGULAR), Future Innovators (OPEN),  Future Engineers and RoboSports, explore how robots can help connect (digitally as well as physically) people and spaces in a safe, efficient and sustainable way.

The teams that were distinguished and make up the Greek delegation that will represent our country at the World Olympiad in Educational Robotics are: Minders, Smartbirds, BitLab1, Teamword Happiness, Save Energy, JoFreAnd Evripos Robotics.

The Teamwork Happiness team from Patras, who qualified for the World Olympiad in Educational Robotics 2023

The team Minders, with the Aqua Byte project, proposed hosting and processing data in server farms at the bottom of the sea. The creation of autonomous server rooms that are submerged at a great depth in the sea, aims to take advantage of the low temperature of the seabed. The server room, if it detects a malfunction (through sensors), transfers the data to another server and emerges. As soon as it emerges on the surface of the sea, it is detected (by camera) and the autonomous floating vessel starts to collect it.

The team Smartbirds built a floating autonomous robotic system Xnode, which using GPS can go anywhere on the planet. It carries wireless technologies capable of relaying a telecommunication signal, while also acting as an IoT station to collect environmental data. It should be emphasized that the team has deservedly represented our country in the past by taking 3rd place in the world in 2017 and 2nd place in the world in 2019 in as many qualifiers to the finals of the World Educational Robotics Olympiad.

In categories RoboMission and RoboSports with the new exciting game Double Tennis, the Kalamata team prevailed and qualified for the Olympiad BitLab1.

The category with the most entries and the most competition was the RoboMission, where students programmed their robots on the day of the competition and made changes on the spot, based on the surprise rule they learn, just like in the World Robotics Olympiad. The teams that qualified were, for the Elementary School, the team Teamwork Happiness from Patras, for the High School the Larissa team Save Energy and for the High School the team JoFre from Attica.

Finally, to the category Future Engineers, the autonomous car-robot driving competition, which took place in Chalkida, the first place was won by the team Evripos Robotics from Central Greece.

7 medals and 18 places in the top ten for Greece in the World Robotics Olympiad

Η Greece participates in the World Olympiad of Educational Robotics since 2009, having so far won 7 medals and 18 places in the top ten. In fact, in last year's Olympiad, our country emerged as the 1st power in Europe and 4th worldwide among 73 countries.

COSMOTE's sustainable development initiatives and actions for educational robotics and STEM have benefited overall more than 224.000 students and teachers and are part of its strategy to address social challenges, among which is digital integration. Because a world in which technology is accessible to all, is a better world for all.
