Yes, you read that right - Microsoft has officially set an expiration date for Windows Phone.
ΣA Microsoft support page titled "Windows 10 Mobile End of Support: Frequently Asked Questions" posted some questions about the possible end of support for the Windows Phone platform.
In the "What should Windows 10 Mobile customers do now?" Section, Microsoft advises Windows Phone users to "move to a supported Android or iOS device." Windows Phone devices will no longer receive updates as of December 10 this year, so Microsoft will no longer support the platform.
Devices that have Windows 10 Mobile version 1709 installed will continue to receive security updates until December 10, while for devices Lumia 640 and 640 XL in version 1703, the upgrades will run until June 11th.
Microsoft advises those who still have a Windows smartphone to back up manually from the built-in program before the expiration date. After that, the application will be phased out. To be able to get a copy, you will go to Settings> Update & Security> Backup> More Options> Backup Now.
