WIND: Goes on the counterattack to the publication of a Rewheel study

The company's response to the Competitiveness Commission's study of the competitiveness of the Greek mobile network data market

ΣFollowing the publication of a study on the competitiveness of the Greek mobile network data market, prepared by the Finnish consulting company Rewheel on behalf of the Competition Commission, WIND wishes to point out the following:

At WIND we always prefer "a few words, a lot of work". We let our customers talk about the quality of our services, our investments, our prices. We respond to the attacks that our industry receives from time to time by putting our scientific staff, knowledge and real data of our company at the disposal of the state and the Independent Authorities.

This time, however, some limits were significantly exceeded.

The issue is not (only) sectoral. At WIND we are in a very different position from the subsidiaries of the multinational companies that compete in Greece.

We know very well the battle we have fought over the last 10 years to stand up to international giants. From time to time we read other "objective analysts" discounting that the Greek market can withstand only two players. And we always responded with more work, better services, bigger investments, lower prices.

We are now accepting baseless allegations against us at a time when thousands of employees have given their best to stand by the millions of our customers in these difficult times. These employees, like our customers, receive messages that raise reasonable questions.

We therefore owe everyone a few clear words.

This "study" gives the impression of intent to support pre-existing views.

General conclusions are drawn with references either to a "carefully" selected mobile plan or to a country which may be more "appropriate" (from Malta to Canada.). Dogmatic views are expressed with a unique reference to a single, obviously "selected" source or to sources that are studies of the consulting company itself (!).

The prepaid card is completely ignored, while it constitutes more than half of the Greek market.

The globally recognized best practice of infrastructure sharing (network sharing) is completely rejected, ignoring the obviously positive impact in areas such as the quality of services, the environmental footprint, cost reduction.

We were also surprised to learn that the high taxation in Greece (the highest in Europe) has no effect on the final prices paid by the Greek consumer. Again, with evidence of a single Cosmote program and a study, again by coincidence, of the same consulting firm.

Extensive reference is made to the famous 4th player. If the conditions are so good for the three existing ones, what are the super profits that we should have as the 3rd player in the market? Why is it ignored that there was a 4th player who chose to leave to mitigate his capital losses? Where exactly is the queue of investors to enter this promising market? Why is there no mention of the unusually large share of the dominant provider?

The study also condemns the global trend of mobile and fixed convergence with obvious benefits for the consumer. Perhaps because our prices on combination products and their high impact on the market do not serve the conclusions of the study.

Finally, it is impressive that the actual size of the market, at least WIND, is completely ignored. Quite simply, how much do our customers actually pay per month and what services do they get for the amount they pay. What prices are we currently offering to our customers.

At the same time, the study is extensive - but without any basis, reference to mobile fixed prices of 60 €, 70 €, even 150 € / month and we wonder in which parallel universe these prices exist. The unfoundedness of the above is fully proved by the simple and only reading of the real data that were never sought….

80% of WIND contract customers have a fixed fee that is less than € 30 / month with all taxes and mobile fees (and under € 22 without taxes and fees), having an average real mobile internet usage of 1,5 GB per month.

Please note that we would at least expect the signatories of the study to visit our website or visit one of our stores before delivering it.

But it's not too late… we will be happy to serve them and get the WIND ONE [1], which combines mobile with 1500 minutes and 5Gb and fixed with 100Mbps, with 55 € with all taxes and mobile charges (by the way the price is 40,9 , XNUMX € without taxes and fees, but these according to the company Rewheel do not significantly increase the final price…).

Finally, we note that in this case we are facing a private, "objective study", which potentially damages our reputation and corporate value. We reserve all our rights.
