Do these times tell you how a car will behave in everyday driving? Not so much. But they tell you how fast it is. They are not very different with phones.

Of course some companies overdo it. Some companies have been caught stealing benchmarks, optimizing the smartphone to be faster when it realizes that an application is running. In addition, they are very important, as they help you to see if the performance has really improved compared to the previous generation. With smartphones reaching a point where the high-end experience is barely distinguishable between different generations, without benchmarking apps it will be impossible to tell if the latest and most recent chips are actually faster. You will wonder, though, why manufacturers make chips faster if users can't figure out the difference. Because, software developers start and create applications that use the extra power of devices.

There are also benchmarks that measure battery life, and allow the user to get a very good view of the autonomy that the device will offer. But at some point we would like to have benchmarks available that will measure the AI ​​performance of smartphones for example, to verify or not the manufacturer's claims on this issue, or to prove whether it is just a marketing ploy aimed at selling more devices.

In short, benchmarks are not only here to stay, but will play a bigger role in the future as performance improves and we will begin to need tests for new technologies that will make their debut on the smartphones of the future.
