Samsung: New patent shows a completely transparent Smartphone that looks like it came out of a Sci-Fi movie

New patent from Samsung, suggests that the company is testing the construction of a completely transparent Smartphone.

ΑIf you thought that Samsung's ambitions to build its first foldable Smartphone were outrageous, you may have to reconsider now after the appearance of a patent, which indicates that the company is trying to build a completely transparent Smartphone.

This patent was filed last January, but appeared in August, and describes the intricate steps and technologies required to create a transparent phone.

Every pixel on the phone screen will allow light to pass through it, making the screen transparent. In the designs of Samsung patents, this transparent screen looks like a window, through which the holder's hand can be seen. Only the rims of the device appear to be opaque.

Samsung's new patents have been spotted by the Dutch technology blog LetsGoDigital, the which also provided the first mock-up (Render) of that device. We are not sure about the usefulness of such a device that looks like it came from a Sci-Fi movie, but it is definitely a great marketing tool that gives a lot of advertising to the technological superiority of the company.

The ambitions to build a transparent Smartphone are not a new one. For example, the LG made a first approach with GD900, but this device had only one transparent keyboard.

Η Sony Ericsson followed later by Xperia Pureness, which, in his honor, presented a transparent screen, which, however, was not very good.

Η Samsung has developed some transparent OLED screens and in the past, but they were used mainly for advertising purposes and for marking in various department stores and services. But on a smartphone, where space for materials is very, very limited, the application of this technology becomes much more complicated.

The company needs to find a way to house the battery and other components so that they do not interfere with the transparent screen, or in some way, make these materials transparent.

This is a problem shown by the transparent phone of the company Ταϊβάν Polytron Technologies in 2013. The SD card and the ribbon cables of the device were still visible, despite the transparent body of the phone.

These patents rarely end up on mainstream devices, so don't expect Samsung to release a transparent line soon. Galaxy S or Note. But the search for the next big innovation in smartphones sometimes leads companies to extreme approaches in order to impress consumers.
