A recent registration with the World Intellectual Property Organization may have given us a glimpse into the remake of Lenovo's Motorola RAZR with a foldable main screen and two other accessories.
Ο design, which was filed on December 17, 2018 (at techblog we reported last August that Motorola is making a foldable smartphone) and first debuted by 91Mobiles, it seems to show a device with a foldable screen inside the device, along with a second smaller screen on the outside. Last week, the Wall Street Journal reported that Motorola plans to release the RAZR again as a smartphone this time, with a foldable screen (which will cost $ 1.500) from next month.
Although the name RAZR does not appear anywhere on the Motorola Mobility record, the design bears an unusual resemblance to the first phone, with exactly the same finish on the bottom of the device. The big change is that inside the phone the old combination of screen and buttons have been replaced with a single large, foldable screen, which matches the detail mentioned in the WSJ article about the appearance of the upcoming device.
Questions about whether Motorola will reinstate the RAZR design have been raised repeatedly since HMD licensed the Nokia brand to re-launch the Nokia 3310 in 2017 and the Nokia 8810 in 2018. Commenting on the renaissance mood, Motorola RAZR V3 designer Paul Pierce told CNET last month that he thought there was an "opportunity" to regenerate the old phone, but that "it can not be done just for a trick or something. We need to find a way to make a breakthrough."
This "revolution" could be here thanks to the appearance of folding screens, which will become much more accessible to the world from next month, when Samsung is expected to present its first folding phone (Galaxy F) alongside the new Galaxy S10 series. Flexible display technology would allow the Motorola retro smartphone to have the same flip-phone design as the original RAZR version without compromising on a modern look and feel.
"I think people feel longing and nostalgia for this Razr, its feel when it opens, its sound when it closes. Where is all this today? And it seems like an opportunity (to happen again) ", Pierce recently explained, “so we try to figure out what we can do to revive something from all of this, but it has to be done in a way that offers a fundamentally incredible experience (to the user) ”.
