The Xiaomi community made an announcement about its way unlock bootloader on Global & EEA/EU HyperOS ROMs
This move will allow for greater customization of devices, installation of alternative operating systems and custom software, and below is a full guide on how you'll be able to do so.
What is the use of unlocking the bootloader?
Unlocking the bootloader on a smartphone can offer many benefits to users who want to have more control over their device. However, it is important to note that this action also comes with some risks. Here's an overview of the potential benefits of unlocking your bootloader:
- Installing Custom ROMs:
One of the main reasons to unlock the bootloader is to be able to install firmware or custom ROMs. This allows users to install versions of the operating system that offer additional features, a different user interface, or more up-to-date versions of Android that may not be officially available for their device. - Bloatware removal:
Smartphones often come with applications pre-installed by the manufacturer or telecommunications provider, known as bloatware. These apps may take up valuable space and be of no interest to the user. By unlocking the bootloader, you can get root privileges and remove these unwanted apps. - Optimized performance and battery:
Some custom ROMs are designed to optimize device performance or extend battery life. This can be especially useful for older devices that no longer receive official updates. - Access as Root :
Unlocking the bootloader is often the first step in gaining root access to your device. Having root privileges allows the user to modify almost every aspect of the operating system, including the ability to install special applications that require these privileges. - Manual updates:
In some cases, official operating system updates may take a long time to arrive or may no longer be released for older devices. Unlocking the bootloader allows users to manually install the latest updates or updates to the security code. - Greater customization :
Apart from custom ROMs, unlocking the bootloader opens the door to a wide range of customizations, such as changing the kernel, changing the user interface (the Skin), installing custom themes and more.
However, it's important to keep in mind that unlocking the bootloader can void your device's warranty, increase your security risk and, if not done correctly, can damage your smartphone beyond repair. Therefore, it is only recommended for experienced users who fully understand the risks involved.
