A new lawsuit has been filed against Apple by a California law firm yesterday, which claims that Apple deliberately released an update that makes its older chargers useless.
ΣIt is reported that the update now prevents the use of older chargers and cables for iPhone, forcing users to buy new Apple chargers. IOS devices display the message "this accessory may not be supported".
In November 2016, Apple released an update (possibly 10.1.1), which was "designed and programmed to prevent, from November 2016, the proper charging of iPhones by older chargers." While this has been the case with accessories from third-party manufacturers at the time, the lawsuit specifically addresses older Apple chargers.
The lawsuit calls for an end to this practice and for all affected clients to be informed, but also to continue with "corrective advertising" to address this injustice.
Apple has already admitted another misleading practice, where it deliberately reduced the performance of older iPhones to optimize battery usage. After that (and the lawsuits that followed) they had to run a lower-cost battery replacement program, which they recently said led to lower-than-expected sales of new iPhones, as consumers chose to change batteries instead of buying a new iPhone.
