The implementation of its interim solution has started European emergency number 112, as ordered by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and implemented by General Secretariat for Civil Protection.
Όas it became known by the Civil Protection, the two centers of 112 are now operational, as the training of those who staff them has been completed and now they will be able to send messages on the mobile phones of all citizens, 24 hours a day, seven days a week .
By the end of the time set for the final operation of 112, both CBS and SMS messages will be sent as part of the interim solution.
According to clarifications from the GGP, in the CBS way all the mobiles of an area can be automatically informed, in order to remove, for example, the population due to danger, but because in order to receive the messages the mobiles must have a special program, will also be sent by SMS, so that there is full coverage.
At the same time, in the near future, a public information campaign will be launched, at the initiative of GGP, on how citizens will set up mobile phones that have not downloaded the CBS messaging program, so that they can receive it in this way. notifications. In the final solution, notifications can also be sent to landlines.
It is emphasized that in any case the citizens have the opportunity to call for help or to report emergencies to 112.
At the moment, the automatic geolocation of the calling phone has not been completed, something that will be done immediately in the final operation of 112, although it is now possible through the mobile phone companies, which cooperate with the coordination centers.
