Xiaomi dominates sales of Android Smartphones in the first half of 2020

Samsung has struggled to maintain the crown of the world's largest smartphone supplier in recent years.

Η Korean company has already lost first place in several regional markets to its Chinese rivals. In particular, it is falling into price-sensitive markets, such as India, where Xiaomi has emerged as the top player.

Also the Huawei There is still a glimpse of her globally, even now that she is at a disadvantage due to the trade embargo imposed on her by the US President.

Its sales Samsung have been greatly affected by his pandemic COVID-19. The ongoing global health crisis, although affecting all smartphone makers around the world, has apparently hit the Samsung.

According to a recent report by the market research company Om Day, Samsung had only one model in the top ten smartphones with the most shipments in the first half of 2020. The Galaxy A51, which was the best-selling smartphone on Android devices in the first quarter of 2020, continued to attract buyers throughout the first half of the year.

This is her mid-ranger Smartphone Samsung managed to have 11,4 million shipments in the first six months of 2020, and came in second after Apple iPhone 11 which managed to sell 37,7 million units during the same period. No other device Samsung failed to exceed even 6,7 million shipments, according to Om Day.

By comparison, the Korean company had four models in the list of the top 10 devices in the first half of 2019. The Galaxy A10, Galaxy A50, Galaxy J2 Core and Galaxy A30 together managed to sell more than 44 million units in the same period last year.

Xiaomi dominated the Android smartphone market in the first half of 2020

The list of the top ten best-selling smartphones in the first half of 2020 includes four of its smartphones Xiaomi. The Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro were the company's most popular Smartphones, which managed to sell 11,0 million and 10,2 million units respectively. Not only that, but also Redmi 8A and Redmi 8 They are also on the list of the top 10 devices. The difference is huge, as it only had two models in the top ten last year.

Four more Apple iPhones iPhone SE (2020), iPhone XR, iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max - complete this year's list. It is interesting that the iPhone SE (2020) was released only in the second quarter of 2020. The fact that the iPhone 11, the cheapest iPhone for 2019, managed to surpass the three most popular Android smartphones, and this is another interesting fact in the Omdia report.

In total, the top ten best-selling smartphones for the first half of 2020 all together had sales that reached 115,5 million units worldwide. In the same period last year the number was 121,8 million units, and although we do not see much difference, the decrease in shipments is certainly a result of the economic downturn caused by the pandemic.

The smartphone market has also become much more sensitive to the prices of devices during the pandemic. Its four models Xiaomi listed, have a value below  170$, with two of them exceeding 100$, and no Android flagship has managed to enter the list of the 10 best devices in terms of sales. It remains to be seen how the smartphone market will evolve in the second half of the year.
