Samsung: The Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20 + and S20 Ultra and the new Earbuds have been announced

H Samsung announced three new smartphones: the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20 + and Galaxy S20 Ultra.

ΠAlthough you might expect Samsung to introduce the Galaxy S11 phones, the company explained that it gave these new names because of the new decade. But leaving the naming aside, the Galaxy S20 series brings some big changes.

The Galaxy S20 Ultra is Samsung's new flagship device, which has a 6,9-inch screen with QHD + resolution (511ppi) and a refresh rate of 120Hz. Unlike Google's high-refresh rate on the Google Pixel 4, the S20 Ultra's display can always be set to refresh at 120Hz to keep up with Apple's latest iPads.

These faster screens will make the Galaxy S20 Ultra even better for gaming, especially when you consider the new screen polling rate of 240Hz. This option basically tells the phone to check more often for touch inputs, to reduce latency, and is set to turn on automatically every time you play a game.

Apart from this really big screen, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra has a main camera at 108MP. However, we actually take 12MP photos with this high resolution sensor because it uses pixel-binning technology to merge nine pixels into one. This way, the imaging sensor absorbs more light to take photos with a wider dynamic range.

This ultra-high resolution sensor also allows the Galaxy S20 Ultra to capture 8K video at 24 frames per second.

The camera with the telephoto lens also received a major upgrade, as it now uses a 48MP image sensor with a "folded lens". This new combination allows the S20 Ultra to combine optical and digital zoom. The results of this new zoom technology are a 10x zoom without loss of resolution and a 100x "space" zoom, as mentioned.

Unfortunately, the wide-angle camera has not received as much love and attention and will remain at 12MP with a 120-degree field of view.

In terms of interior, the Galaxy S20 Ultra comes with Qualcomm's latest processor, the Snapdragon 865, with 128GB of storage and 12GB of RAM in its basic version. In addition, this smartphone will come with 5G connectivity as a key feature (last year Samsung created a special model Galaxy S10 with 5G) and a 5.000mAh battery.

The whole flagship experience will of course cost a lot, as the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra starts at $ 1.399. Pre-orders start on February 21st and the phone will be available from March 6th.

A new galaxy

Samsung did not leave the most traditional models of Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20 + to their fate. These phones have seen similar upgrades as the S20 Ultra. For starters, the Galaxy S6,2 20-inch screen and the Galaxy S6,7 + 20-inch screen are included in Samsung's new 120Hz and 240Hz touchscreen polling rate screens. These phones are also capable of recording 8K video and will be able to connect to 5G networks such as the Galaxy S20 Ultra.

The only thing missing from these two smaller cell phones is a high resolution main camera. Unfortunately, we will see a 12MP wide-angle camera on the two regular Galaxy S20 phones, but at least the telephoto lens has a 64MP sensor and will give you a 3x lossless hybrid optical zoom and a 30x Space Zoom.

The Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20 + in turn feature a Snapdragon 865 processor with 12GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, as well as 5G connectivity. Of course, due to the fact that we are talking about cheaper devices, the Galaxy S20 has a battery of only 4.000mAh, while the S20 + 4.500mAh.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20 + will be priced at $ 999 and $ 1.199, respectively. Pre-orders start on February 21st and the phones will be available on March 6th.

New Earbuds

Last but not least, Samsung has also announced an upgraded pair of its "really wireless" headphones: the Galaxy Buds +.

Easily the biggest improvement the headphones have seen is the increase in battery life, which now gives you 11 hours on the headphones and 11 hours on the case. Compared to last year's Galaxy Buds, which had only six hours of life, with an additional seven hours in the case, we are talking about about twice the usage time.

The Samsung Galaxy Buds + also features dynamic two-way speakers and three microphones for improved sound and voice quality. In addition, Galaxy Buds + are now iOS compatible, so you can connect them to an iPhone 11 Pro, iPad or any other Apple device. Available from February 14, the Samsung Galaxy Buds + will be priced at $ 149.
